COUNTRYSIDE ANIMAL WELFARE GROUP

MENU

The CAWG is an independent group of RSPCA members who feel that the RSPCA has lost its way.

However, the CAWG urges you to join the RSPCA because:

  • The RSPCA is the world's largest animal welfare organization with an annual income of over £50 million and some £111 million in cash and quoted investments. Clearly it has considerable influence on public opinion.

  • It is the only organisation in the country with the facilities, funding and workforce to carry out vital animal welfare work, and for this it deserves our support.

The CAWG believes that the views of farmers, the rural community and anglers are under-represented in the formulation of its policies; particularly, in the following:

  • "The RSPCA is opposed to the sale of livestock at markets"

  • "The RSPCA is opposed to any hunting of animals with dogs or other animals"

  • "The RSPCA believes that 'sport' does not justify the causing of suffering to birds and other animals and therefore the RSPCA is opposed to shooting for sport"

  • "The RSPCA believes that current practices in angling involve the infliction of pain and suffering on fish"

The CAWG believes that the RSPCA's current policies may have an adverse effect upon established and efficient farming practices and upon traditional country pursuits. A gulf is being created between the Society and the rural people who look after the vast majority of animals in this country, and who have a valuable contribution to make to the work of the RSPCA.

Only by joining the RSPCA can you influence its future decisions. If enough people join, our voting power will be effective. Considerable progress has already been made, and the CAWG urges all country people who care about animals to join the RSPCA.

Please therefore join the RSPCA now; membership forms may be obtained by telephoning the RSPCA on 01403 264181, or from the RSPCA web site (www.rspca.org.uk). The annual cost of a single membership is £15, or £20 for joint membership which doubles your voting power. Once you have joined, please be sure to inform the CAWG at the address/tel.no. below so that the CAWG can keep you informed of progress.
